Many people have high cholesterol and don’t even know it.  You could have high cholesterol for years and have no symptoms of it.

Cholesterol:

  • Cholesterol is a waxy fat like substance found in the cells of the body.
  • Cholesterol can also be found in the foods that we eat.
  • If you have too much it can cause a buildup in your arteries and prevent your blood from flowing so it is very important for you to monitor your cholesterol levels.

On your annual exam make sure to get your cholesterol checked.  After you do that ask your doctor what the results mean.  Your medical doctor is your 1st line preventive source because he can let you know if you are at risk for heart disease, stroke, hypertension or diabetes.  He also can tell you other preventive measures that you need to apply to your everyday life such as diet and exercise.
