A Nurse Practitioner is a Registered Nurse who has advanced training in diagnosing and treating various diseases or illnesses.  Family Nurse Practitioners take care of patients in many different settings such as clinics, doctor offices, hospitals and many other ways.

Here are some of the things they do:

  1. Focus on disease prevention
  2. Order labs and tests
  3. Conduct routine checkups and exams
  4. Prescribe medications
  5. Diagnose

Many of us will call our doctors’ offices to see the doctors but end up seeing his Nurse Practitioner.  Nurse Practitioners are very important to the health care team.
