November is National Family Caregiver Month – By Janice Williams
November is coming and along with it brings National Family Caregiver Month! Are you a caregiver? Well if you are we celebrate you! This is your own special month where organizations across the country will recognize the great things that you do. If you are not a family caregiver below are 10 ways to help celebrate someone who takes care of their ill family member or loved one.
- Buy them a pass to a movie, comedy club or any type of humorous event. Laughter does well like medicine.
- FLOWERS! You know the old saying “Give them flowers while they live”. The colors will encourage and the scents will be pleasing to their senses.
- Take a few minutes and write them an encouraging letter or card
- Offer to give them a break by taking care of their loved one for them for a couple of hours.
- Take them to church or allow them to go
- Buy them their favorite CD
- Make them a meal
- Buy them chocolate. The Endorphins in chocolate work to decrease levels of stress.
- Offer to clean their home.
- Allow them to vent.
