2019 Caregivers Financial Summit Recap

Blog, Events, Finance

April the 11th will go down in history. It was our second annual Caregivers Financial Summit and it was a blast!

There were over 70 attendees and the room was filled with educators & businesses who all wanted to help caregivers maximize all that they do for their loved ones. This year’s theme was focused on encouraging caregivers to plan ahead for their own care.

According to a 2016 AARP article, caregiver’s spent a significant out-of-pocket cost to take care of their loved ones – an average of $7,000 a year! These expenses could come from things like buying special equipment, medications, or even toiletries like diapers and wipes.

We opened up the morning with a Q&A session about personal finance with Brian Vincent from Regions Bank. Next on the program, we invited our volunteer Coaches to introduce themselves to the room and start each table of attendees on our Challenge Questions. Each table was given a mock caregiving scenario and a list of questions that would help them plan for care under different circumstances.

Next we heard from Chris Knudsen from The Bailey Law Firm about the Top 10 Things Caregiver Legal Issues. After lunch, we met our Long Term Care Panel and talked about all the things caregivers need to be successful in planning for their own care.

We wrapped up the day with words from our sponsors, vendors, and the Caregivers In Business we had present. We can’t thank you all enough for giving us your time, ears, and wisdom. This year’s Financial Summit was phenomenal!
