October Spotlight

Announcements, Blog

We depend on our volunteers to keep our events and resources running smoothly. Our caregivers freely give their time and talents to help each other find respite every day of the year. This month, we want to highlight two of our favourite caregiver volunteers – Ms. Gwendolyn Jones-Moore and Mrs. Geraldine Pollard. Their commitment to the mission and members of Caregiver’s Respite is worthy of celebration. Read more about each of them below and leave a comment about a memory you have of them.

Gwendolyn Jones-Moore

As the Director of Caregiver’s Respite, I remember meeting Ms. Jones-Moore out of the blue and her becoming one of the jewels of our organization overnight. Ms. Jones-Moore had a way of lighting up the room whenever our support group would meet. She took upon herself to offer her catering services so the caregivers would have a great meal whenever we were together. Ms. Jones-Moore has volunteered for several events over the last ten years. During the course of her serving, she had a cancer diagnosis. When I asked her how she feels when she talks about her journey, she states “I feel relief when I can share my story. He did not kill me, he crippled me for a minute but it did not take me down.” Mrs. Jones-Moore is an inspiration and a blessing. She continues to serve her family, her mother, and her self well.

Geraldine Pollard

Everybody loves Mrs. POLLARD! When I think of someone original, Mrs. Pollard always comes to mind first. We met at the Church Health Center over 13 years ago. She’s the type of person that is always a friend – when you meet her, she never meets a stranger. I remember her helping in every way that she could with our organization from the very beginning. She said it was a blessing to her because if the time she was caring for her mother long-distance. Mrs. Pollard has truly engaged in every level of Caregivers Respite and with literally everybody she meets! She is a 12-year colon cancer survivor and a six-year breast cancer survivor but when you look at her, she never looks like what she’s been through. Mrs. Pollard is also very active in her grief and cancer support groups. She is a blessing and a mother of 11 children. When you see her, you also see her husband. They are like Bonnie and Clyde – they work together and help together!
